Based on Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story opened in 1957 on Broadway. Although the dark subject shocked some people, critics praised Jerome Robbins' innovative choreography. Arthur Laurents created the book, Leonard Bernstein composed the music, and Stephen Sondheim wrote the lyrics for the musical.
Directed by Arthur Laurents, the latest West Side Story revival opened in March of 2009 on Broadway. With a bilingual cast, the musical mixed English and Spanish, and Lin-Manuel Miranda translated the lyrics to songs like "I Feel Pretty." The show has since closed on Broadway, but a national tour was launched in 2010. Find West Side Story tickets at TicketNetwork and experience one of the most famous musicals of all time!
