Madison Square Garden
Madison Square Garden, which is also called MSG or The Garden, is a large multi-purpose arena in the New York City borough of Manhattan. Located atop Pennsylvania Station, Madison Square Garden opened on February 11, 1968. In terms of total ticket sales, Madison Square Garden is the fourth-busiest music venue in the world and the busiest in the United States, only trailing The O2 Arena, the Manchester Arena, and THE SSE Hydro, which are all located in the United Kingdom.
Each year, the world's most popular music stars take the stage at Madison Square Garden to perform for the 20,000 fans in attendance. Elton John held the all-time record for the most shows held at Madison Square Garden with 64, however, that record was broken in 2015 by Billy Joel, who performs at The Garden almost monthly. Other artists and groups who have performed at MSG include Madonna, The Police, U2, Kanye West, Adele, AC/DC, Andrea Bocelli, and Drake.
Along with hosting a wide array of concerts, Madison Square Garden is also home to many sporting events, including hosting the home games of the the New York Rangers of the NHL and the New York Knicks of the NBA. MSG is the oldest arena in the NHL and the second-oldest arena in the NBA. MSG is also home to the New York Liberty of the WNBA and the St. John's Red Storm basketball team. WWE and boxing events are also a regular occurrence at The Garden.
