About  G-Eazy

Gerald Earl Gillum, better known as G-Eazy, is an American rapper and record producer from Oakland, California. He was influenced by a range of musicians from famous rappers such as Lil Wayne and Tupac to classic performers like Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash.

Early Life

G-Eazy was born on May 24, 1989. His father was a professor of art at California State University, Fresno; his mother, Suzanne Olmsted, was an artist and a teacher. In first grade, his parents split, his father left, and G-Eazy and his younger brother were raised by his mother where all three of them shared a room at his grandparent’s house. He attended Berkley High School, where he became interested in making beats and using music production software. He attended college at Loyola University in New Orleans to earn a bachelor’s degree in music industry studies, and with a career set on hip-hop, he began releasing mixtapes.

Career Beginnings

After releasing several mixtapes and LP’s such as “The Tipping Point” (2008) and “Big” (2010), he gradually began to grow a profound reputation. By the time he graduated in 2011 he had toured with Lil Wayne and Drake. Although he was not able to socialize much with the headline acts outside of shows, he took the opportunity to watch and learn how to program a live set, work a crowd, and act like a star.

A year after graduating college, he released his debut album Must be Nice, which peaked at No. 33 on the Billboard R&B/hip hop chart and No. 3 on the iTunes hip hop chart. In June 2014, G-Eazy made his major label debut with the album These Things Happen on RCA labels. The album peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard album chart and was certified gold by the RIAA.

Must Be Nice (2012) - This was G-Eazy’s debut, self-labeled solo album, and at its peak reached number 33 on Billboard’s top R&B/Hip-Hop albums. It has features from Johanna Fay on “Plastic Dreams” and “Must be Nice”, Hoodie Allen on “Lady Killers”, Devon Baldwin on “Mad”, Dominique LeJeune on “Marilyn”, Mod Sun on “Stay High”, and DJ Carnage on “Loaded”.

These Things Happen (2014) - His second album had a very successful breakthrough when it released June 23, 2014 on RCA Records. It debuted at number three on Billboard 200 and number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums. In April 2018, the album was certified platinum by the RIAA. At its peak, it reached number five on U.S. charts, and number one on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop charts. The Beautiful & Damned (2017) - G-Eazy’s fourth and most recent studio album was released on December 15, 2017 by RCA Records. The album received mixed reviews, but G-Eazy attributes its bizarre reception as a reminder to why he is one of a kind. Regardless, the album reached number three on Billboard’s top 200, and number one on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop and went certified gold by both the RIAA and MC. The hit song on the album is Him & I, featuring the singer Halsey.
