About  Golden State Warriors

History of the Golden State Warriors

Before making their way to the west coast to become the Golden State Warriors, the franchise got their start on the east coast in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. The Warriors began play in 1946 as part of the Basketball Association of America and got off to a fast start. In the league's first season in existence, the Warriors won the BAA Championship by defeating the Chicago Stags. Just a couple of years later, the BAA and National Basketball League joined forces to create the National Basketball Association. It was as part of the NBA that the Warriors drafted perhaps the greatest center to ever play the game in 1959. Wilt Chamberlain joined the Warriors in that year, and his combination of size and unique skills made him an unstoppable force. As a member of the Warriors, Chamberlain scored an NBA record 100 points in a single game against the New York Knicks. The game now lives in basketball lore as an unbreakable record, one that perhaps will never be broken. Over his career, "Wilt the Stilt" would score nearly 18,000 points as a member of the Warriors, including a season averaging more than 50 points per game, before his trade to the Philadelphia 76ers in 1965.

The Warriors officially became known as the Golden State Warriors in 1971 after nine years as the San Francisco Warriors (they moved from Philadelphia in 1962). While their first NBA Championship came in 1956 on the East Coast, the Golden State Warriors were able to match that accomplishment in 1975 when they won the NBA title against the Washington Bullets in a four-game sweep that showed Warriors fans that they were the dominant team that season, led by players like Rick Barry and Jamaal Wilkes. In seasons that followed for the Golden State Warriors, many great players put on their uniform. Some of those players included Chris Mullen, Tim Hardaway and Chris Webber. The Warriors had a rough couple of years before striking gold in the NBA Draft. They selected Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes in the draft, a nucleus that would later lead them to a championship in 2015. Curry and Thompson aim to go down as the best backcourt duo of all time as they keep draining threes and winning games.

Most Recent Season

This most recent NBA season the Warriors won their sixth NBA Championship. They finished the regular season 58-24. It was their first season under head coach Steve Kerr where they did not win 60 games. They finished in first in the Pacific Division and second in the Western Conference. In the First Round of the playoffs the Warriors met the San Antonio Spurs where they won the series 4-1. Then the Warriors went on to face the New Orleans Pelicans in the Semifinals – the Warriors also won the series 4-1. The hardest matchup the Warriors experienced was against the Houston Rockets but the Warriors came out on top winning the series 4-3. Finally, the Warriors met the Cleveland Cavaliers for the fourth year in a row. It was the first time in the history of the four professional sports where the same two teams competed in a championship for a fourth consecutive year. The Warriors ended up sweeping the Cavs, winning their third Championship in four years. Will the Warriors be able to pull it off again? Some people seem to think so…

Upcoming Season

The Warriors are expected to have an even more spectacular season this year. All of their All-Star players are returning including Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green. In addition to this, DeMarcus Cousins signed a 1-year deal with the Warriors. This means that the Warriors will have five All-Star players from the previous season on their team. This has only happened six times in the history of the NBA and the last time it happened was in 1976 with the Boston Celtics. It will be the last season the Warriors play at the Oracle Arena in Oakland before moving to Chase Center in San Francisco in 2019. In the 2018 NBA Draft, the Warriors selected Jacob Evans from Cincinnati. The Golden State Warriors 2018-19 season will begin on October 16th at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Throughout the season the Warriors will meet their divisional rivals – including the Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, and the Phoenix Suns – multiple times throughout the season. Many NBA fans are looking forward to Lebron James and the Lakers taking on the Warriors in the West. Will the Warriors be able to return to the Finals for the fifth consecutive year? There is only one way to find out. TicketNetwork has all your access to Golden State Warriors tickets. Check out our vast selection of Golden State Warriors tickets and grab yours today!
