About Cirque du Soleil - The Beatles: Love
The Beatles: LOVE is a Cirque du Soleil production based on the music of one of the most famous bands in the world: the Beatles. The show has been running since 2006 at The Mirage in Las Vegas, Nevada. Performances are held in the Love theatre within The Mirage. The Love theatre is said to have cost $100 million to build and has 2,013 seats surrounding a 360 degree stage, so every seat is a good seat.
In 2000, conversations between George Harrison (lead guitarist of the Beatles) and Guy Laliberté (one founder of Cirque Du Soleil) began discussing the ideas behind The Beatles: LOVE. Harrison sadly passed away in 2001 but his vision continued. In 2003, the Beatles’ holding company Apple Corps Ltd and the MGM Mirage made an agreement to begin production of the show. The opening show was on June 30, 2006 and in attendance was Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono (John Lennon’s widow and second wife), Olivia Harrison (George Harrison’s widow), Dhani Harrison (George Harrison’s son), Cynthia Lennon (John Lennon’s first wife), and Julian Lennon (John Lennon’s son). It was the biggest reunion of the Beatles family since the band had broken up in 1970.
Some of the shows’ characters are fictional characters taken from various Beatles songs. Some of these characters include Sgt. Pepper, Lucy in the Sky, Eleanor Rigby, Lady Madonna, and Mr. Kite. Each scene features a different Beatle song or medley of songs. There are 65 cast members that are part of this spectacular and nostalgic show. The music, theatrics, stage production, and talent make for an unforgettable show. If you are in Vegas you do not want to miss out!
