Ryder Cup Tickets

When it comes to team competitions in golf, Ryder Cup tickets are the pinnacle. No competition gets fans and players fired up more than the Ryder Cup. With two teams of 12 on each side, the Ryder Cup is a clash between the United States and Europe. Players qualify for the event throughout the season ensuring that the best of the best are on display in the Ryder Cup. Every other year the competition takes place on American or European soil. Since 1979, the Europeans have a slight edge in the competition, winning 11 of the 20 tournaments. The formats of the Ryder Cup include best ball, alternate shot and singles matches that take place on Sunday. With 28 points up for grabs throughout the course of the weekend, the first team to 14 1/2 points takes home the Ryder Cup. Usually a gentlemen's game, Ryder Cup tickets are extremly coveted because there can be a home-field advantage and fans openly cheer and boo depending on what they are rooting for. The atmosphere is unlike any other tournament and the Ryder Cup has produced some of golf's best moments.

Best Ryder Cup Moments

1969 - One of the greatest golfers of all-time, Jack Nickluas, also has one of the greatest gestures in the tournament. With the tournament coming down to the wire, Nicklaus stepped up drained a putt on the 18th to ensure that the United States would retain the cup. However, the opposing team needed to sink a short putt or else the US would win outright. Instead of it coming down to that, Nicklaus allowed the opposing player, Tony Jacklin to pick up his marker ending the match in a tie. The decision was controversial, but it was Nicklaus' to make and he showed a great deal of sportsmanship in that moment.

1999 - The Battle at Brookline. After a few years of European dominance, the United States were facing a third straight defeat down 4 points heading into the final day. The heated tournament came to a boil when American Justin Leonard nailed an improbable 45-foot putt to seal the come-from-behind win. The US won the day 8 1/2 to 3 1/2 and won the match 14 1/2 to 13 1/2. When people bring up memorable Ryder Cups, they usually start with 1999. This marked the point that the competition turned into a serious rivalry and players refused to bring anything but their best following the American comeback.

2012 - The Miracle at Medinah. This was sweet payback for the Europeans and Jose Maria Olazabal. Olazabal was a member of the losing team in 1999, but came back as the captain in 2012. With the Europeans trailing 10-4 late on Saturday, they rallied to cut the US lead to 10-6. On Sunday, the avalanche continued and the Europeans pulled off a similar comeback to win by a point.
