About Evita Tickets

Evita, the fourth musical collaboration between famed duo Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, is a musical based on the life of Argentine political leader Eva Perón. The pair originally created Evita as an album musical with Julie Covington singing the title role. After the successful debut of the album, the musical was reworked for the stage and opened in London’s West End on June 21, 1978.

Evita was both a commercial and critical success. The original Broadway production opened on September 25, 1979, with Patti LuPone starring as Eva and Mandy Patinkin playing Che. Evita ran on Broadway for four years and almost 1,600 performances, and the musical took home seven Tony Awards, including the coveted Best Musical honor, at the 1980 awards show.

Evita is probably best known for its power ballad "Don’t Cry for Me Argentina," which Eva Perón sings early in the second act. The musical is also known for its film adaptation starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas, which was nominated for five Academy Awards.

This blockbuster musical is now back on Broadway for a limited engagement, with Latin music superstar Ricky Martin anchoring the all-star cast as he returns to the stage to play the role of Che. Elena Roger, who wowed theatre audiences with her performance as Eva Perón in London’s West End, is reprising her title role. The Broadway production was nominated for three Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical; this is a show not to be missed, so be sure to get your Evita tickets before the curtain closes January 26, 2013!
