Twitter Profile

By the time she released her debut album, In the Heat of the Night, in 1979, Pat Benatar had already established herself in New York City-area clubs such as Catch a Rising Star and Tramps. The release of the album gave Benatar a much larger audience. Generating hit singles "Heartbreaker" and "We Live for Love," it turned Benatar into an overnight success.

Her second album, Crimes of Passion, followed up on the popularity of the first album, and brought more hits in the form of "You Better Run" and "Hit Me with Your Best Shot." The former was played as the second-ever music video on MTV after its launch in 1981. Benatar continued on with several more hit albums throughout the 1980s, including Precious Time (1981), Get Nervious (1982), Live from Earth (1983), Tropico (1984), Seven the Hard Way (1985), and Wide Awake in Dreamland (1988), with tours supporting the first two and last two.

Moving into the 1990s, Benatar's commercial success faded, and she only released a few albums during the decade, including True Love (1991), Gravity's Rainbow, and Innamorata (1997). She also mostly took a break from headlining tours for several years, but opened for Fleetwood Mac, REO Speedwagon, and Steve Miller Band. Benatar released one studio album in the 2000s, Go (2003). She has since released numerous compilation works and has frequently gone on tour.
