Jake Owen decided to take the leap and moved to Nashville, Tennessee from his hometown in Florida. It was while he was opening a savings account at a local bank that his big break began. The bank teller was able to get his CD to a local record label which led to getting into contact with a producer and songwriter. Once he was signed, executives suggested that Owen change his name from Josh to Jake so people wouldn’t be confused with other country music artists named Josh.
Jake Owen debuted in 2006 with his single “Yee Haw” that charted on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The song became the leading single for his first album entitled Startin’ with Me. Soon after the release of his debut album, Owen became the opening act for artists such as Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. In 2007, Owen joined Alan Jackson and Brooks & Dunn for a tour as well as toured with Sugarland a few months later.
Jake Owen has churned out country music hits as he grew his fanbase and experience with music. In 2008, he released Easy Does It, which ended up reaching number two on the Billboard Top Country Albums as well as number 13 on the Billboard 200 chart.
