The musical follows four mature women shopping for lingerie at a Bloomingdale's sale, with lyrics parodying popular music from the baby boomer era to reflect symptoms of the menopause.
The plot of this hilarious musical sendup has four middle-aged women meeting in a tussle over a sale-rack bra at Bloomingdale’s. The four characters of menopausal age are a sophisticated soap star blonde in a wrap dress, a perfectly pulled together professional woman in control, a plus-size vegan hippie who remembers the 60's fondly, and a Iowa housewife in town for her husband's annual funeral directors' conference. These four women with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra on sale, come to find they have more to share than ever imagined.
All the songs are reworded to fit a menopause theme. Tales of woe unfold through musical parodies of pop hits from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. “Chain of Fools” becomes “Change of Life,” “Stayin’ Alive” becomes “Stayin’ Awake,” “Night Fever” becomes “Night Sweating,” and “My Guy” becomes “My Thighs.”
The all-female cast makes fun of their woeful hot flashes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges.
