About Wilco

Wilco concert tours have brought alternative rock sounds throughout the US! The band formed after the breakup of their original alternative country band, Uncle Tupelo, in 1994. In the mid-1990s, they decided to remake their identity and rename themselves to “Wilco” which is the military abbreviation for “will comply.” Get your Wilco tickets to see the Chicago-based band continue to wow the crowd with its eclectic alternative rock music.

Figuring Out Their Sound

Since the band flourished out of a recent breakup of their original band, it took a few years of tweaking for the band to be who they are today. For about a decade, Wilco released several albums which tested out their sound while also changing the lineup of their band.

Their first album, A.M., released later in 1995 with the album making it onto the Billboard Heatseekers chart. They toured for nearly 200 days to support the album and spread the word about their music. In 1998, the band released the album Mermaid Avenue, which transformed the lyrics written by American folk singer Woody Guthrie and was sung by British singer Billy Bragg. The highly anticipated album would receive a Grammy nomination later as well as become one of the top albums by Wilco. However, by their next album, the band moved away from alternative country towards indie rock.

In 1999, Wilco released the album Summerteeth which shifted the band’s sound again from rock to orchestral pop. Wilco went on to release another album in 2002 called Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, which changed the band’s sound completely. That same year, Q Magazine named it one of the 100 greatest albums of all time.

Despite the ongoing success, Wilco saw plenty of changes to its lineup during the creation of their fifth album. In 2004, A Ghost is Born was released though original band members had already departed. Nonetheless, the album won two Grammy awards in 2005 for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Recording Package. Since then, differences were put aside to make Wilco work.

Sticking Together

No matter the unruly past of breakups and hardships, the band managed to have found long-lasting members that are still a part of Wilco today. This bond and finding their sound proved unstoppable in the years to come as their success catapulted them. In 2009, the band released their self-titled album which ended up being a career-high on the charts. The album was number four on the Billboard Top 200 Album and number two on the Billboard Top Rock Album chart.

Wilco is still touring and still producing to this day. The adventure that Wilco has been on has only fueled the energy that they have on every stage with loyal fans and new listeners wanting more. The Wilco tour schedule continues to be packed with concerts available for all fans. See the Wilco concert tour in person and get your Wilco tickets today!
