About David Copperfield

Who is David Copperfield?
Born David Kotkin, Copperfield learned his first magic tricks at a summer camp for ventriloquists. Later, Canadian magician Doug Henning invented the genre of "magic musical," and at just 17 years old Kotkin found himself cast in the musical production The Magic Man. In the beginning of his career, Kotkin called himself Davino, as he thought it had an elegant ring to it. He then opted for David Copperfield after the main character from Charles Dickens’ novel David Copperfield.
The Magic of David Copperfield
To promote his annual TV special with a more spectacular trick each year, Copperfield continuously made bigger and better things disappear. From first vanishing a Ferrari to a whole plane, crafting an esoteric appearance of a ship in the Bermuda Triangle, escaping from a building as it is being blown up during demolition, to floating an airborne wagon of the Orient Express and unleashing in Niagara Falls, Copperfield has seemingly done it all. But of course, he always has one more trick up his sleeve – his list of unbelievable illusions goes on and on. Over thirty years ago, he crossed the Great Wall of China, which was part of his TV special “The Magic of David Copperfield VIII.” The crowning highlight of his career was the disappearance of the Statue of Liberty. After this performance, which ran in 1983 with sensationally high numbers of viewers, Copperfield was no longer just a magician, but rather "the man who made the Statue of Liberty disappear."
Success
David Copperfield is a multi-award-winning magician. He has won 21 Emmy Awards for his TV specials, received the Living Legend Award from the Library of the Congress and was knighted by the French government for achievements in art and literature. Furthermore, Copperfield was also named the magician of the century and magician of the millennium. He is the first illusionist with a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame which was dedicated to him in 1995. And in six different countries, his face has already graced postal stamps – no other living magician has been given this honor so far! Additionally, David Copperfield also holds eleven world records. One of them for highest number of magic shows performed in a year, and others for the largest international television audience for a magician, largest illusion ever staged and also for being one of the highest paid magical performers.
