The British rock band, Queen originally began with Brian May and Roger Taylor. Initially known as Smile, the band would go on to recruit then fan, Freddie Mercury who would successfully suggest Queen to be the band’s new name. The name stuck and would become a massive success from 1970 onwards. The band’s lineup featured Freddie Mercury as lead vocals and piano, Brian May on guitar and vocals, Roger Taylor on drums and vocals, and John Deacon on bass. Queen tickets rapidly grew in value over the years as the band grew more and more famous. At this point Queen has established itself as an iconic piece of rock history. In 1990 they were awarded the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. In 2001 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. More recently, in 2018 they were presented the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Estimates show that Queen’s record sales range from 170 million to 300 million which makes them one of the best-selling music artists in the world. Their initial sound was heavily influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal. But over time the band shifted towards more mainstream radio-friendly sounds, heavily incorporating arena rock and pop rock into their sound. Since the loss of front man, Freddie Mercury, from 2004 and beyond the band has continued performing under the alias of, “Queen +”. This version of the band features a modified lineup including original band members Brian May and Roger Taylor, plus the additions of Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert.

Lots of people have opinions on Adam Lambert leading Queen as Mercury’s replacement, but it’s undeniable that the man has range and can carry the torch. Chris gave an excellent review of the Queen & Adam Lambert concert he had experienced,

“This was truly a Rock show. Absolutely FANTASTIC. Worth the $400 it cost for 2 tickets. Brian May has done nothing but improve on his craft it seems. The same can be said for Roger Taylor... both were simply outstanding. As to Adam Lambert...I can tell you that the first time we ever saw him on American Idol, the very first thing my wife and I said was "He would be the only guy that could ever sing in place of Freddie Mercury"...and I can honestly say that we were right. That guy was AMAZING. An absolutely PERFECT fit. If anyone out there has any doubts about how they will sound... DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.”
