Jason Aldine Williams, professionally known as Jason Aldean, was born on February 28, 1977 in Macon, Georgia. He lived with his mother most of the time but spent his summers with his father in Homestead, Florida. His father taught him how to play the guitar and Aldean would practice all day while his father was at work. When Aldean was a teenager, both his parents supported his passion for music. He would perform at local talent competitions and at age 15 Aldean joined the house band at a night club in Georgia. After graduating high school, Aldean continued to pursue his music career. In 1998, he performed original songs at a showcase in Atlanta. He was approached by Michael Knox from the Warner-Chappell song-publishing company. Aldean signed with Knox and then moved to Nashville, Tennessee. Shortly after, the label dropped him. He was beginning to get frustrated with his music career and almost moved back to Georgia. But eventually received an offer from Broken Bow Records. Signing with Broken Bow Records was the big break that Aldean needed.
Debut Album and Relentless
Once signed to Broken Bow Records, Aldean began recording his debut album. “Hicktown” was released as the album’s lead single on March 28, 2005. This single peaked at number 10 on the Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and generated buzz for the up and coming album. The album was self-titled Jason Aldean and was released on July 26, 2005. Jason Aldean peaked at number 37 on the Billboard 200 and number 6 on the Billboard Top Country Albums. Since its release it has become certified Platinum by the RIAA. The second official single for the album was “Why” which has been previously recorded by Shannon Brown on her album Corn Fed. “Why” topped the Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart giving Aldean his first number one single. At the 2006 Academy of County Music Awards, Jason Aldean was awarded the title of “Top New Male Vocalist”. After Aldean’s breakthrough year, he began working on new music in early 2007. He worked with producer Michael Knox who Aldean had been previously signed with. Aldean released Relentless as his second studio album with Broken Bow Records and Knox as his producer in May of 2007. Relentless debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums. This album is now also certified Platinum by the RIAA.
Wide Open and My Kinda Party
The lead single for Aldean’s third studio album was released on December 1, 2008 and was called “She’s Country”. It was Aldean’s first single to crack the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 29. The album was titled Wide Open and dropped on April 7, 2009. Wide Open, like Aldean’s previous two albums, was also produced by Michael Knox. It debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200 and number 2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums. Other singles featured on the album included “Big Green Tractor”, “The Truth”, and “Crazy Town”. “Big Green Tractor” seemed to be the most popular, peaking at number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100. Wide Open was also Aldean’s third studio album to become certified Platinum by the RIAA. Aldean’s fourth studio album was his most successful work yet, at the time. The album was titled My Kinda Party and was released on November 2, 2010. It peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and became certified 4X Platinum by the RIAA. The album featured many singles which included the hits “Don’t You Wanna Stay” (feat. Kelly Clarkson) and “Dirt Road Anthem” which peaked at 31 and 7, subsequently. My Kinda Party earned a Grammy nomination for Best Country Album and won Album of the Year at the CMAs. “Don’t You Wanna Stay” also earned a Grammy nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. Aldean was becoming more and more successful with each album he released.
Night Train and Old Boots, New Dirt
Aldean’s fifth studio album was his first album to peak at number 1 on the Billboard 200. The album was titled Night Train and was released on October 16, 2012. Night Train featured five singles including the hits “Take a Little Ride” and “The Only Way I Know” (feat. Luke Bryan and Eric Church). “Take a Little Ride” peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and “The Only Way I Know” peaked at number 40. Almost exactly two years later Aldean released his sixth studio album, Old Boots, New Dirt. Just like all of Aldean’s previous albums, it was released by Broken Bow Records and produced by Michael Knox. Jason Aldean and Michael Knox seemed to be a good pair because Old Boots, New Dirt topped the Billboard 200; Aldean’s second album to do so. Old Boots, New Dirt featured four singles which were “Burnin’ It Down”, “Just Getting’ Started”, “Tonight Looks Good on You”, and “Gonna Know We Were Here”. “Burnin’ It Down” topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and peaked at number 12 on the Billboard 200. And just like all of Aldean’s other works, Old Boots, New Dirt became certified Platinum by the RIAA (his sixth album to do so).
They Don’t Know
Another two years passed before Aldean dropped his next album. The country star’s seventh studio album was entitled They Don’t Know and was released in September of 2016. This was Aldean’s first album to not become certified Platinum but it still topped the Billboard 200, debuting at number 1. The album included a track called “First Time Again” which featured fellow country star Kelsea Ballerini. Singles from the They Don’t Know include “Lights Come On”, “A Little More Summertime”, “Any Ol’ Barstool”, and “They Don’t Know”. The same year that They Don’t Know was released, Aldean was named Entertainer of the Year at the ACM Awards.
Tragedy struck in the fall of 2017 while Aldean was performing at the Route 91 Harvest festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. Aldean began to perform “When She Says Baby” when Stephon Paddock began firing shots into the audience from the window of his hotel room. Paddock fired over 1,100 rifle rounds killing 58 people and injuring another 851. It is the deadliest mass shooting by an individual in the history of the Unity States. Aldean canceled shows following the shooting but resumed is tour later on. He was quoted saying, “I feel like out of respect for the victims, their families and our fans, it is the right thing to do.” Aldean has also made extensive efforts to raise money for the survivors of the horrific event.
In the wake of the mass shooting, Aldean found solace in music and he continued to perform and record his music. On February 5, 2018 he released the lead single for his album called “You Make It Easy. The single debuted at number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100. Aldean released his seventh studio album, Rearview Town, on April 13, 2018 to critical acclaim. Rearview Town debuted at number 1, becoming his fourth consecutive album to do so. “Drowns the Whiskey” was the second single from the album which featured Miranda Lambert. The album continues to sell every week and will most likely remain on the Billboard 200 chart for quite some time. Jason Aldean is currently on his High Noon Neon Tour along with Luke Combs and Laruen Alaina. If you want to see Jason Aldean live now is the time!
