About  Denver Nuggets

History of the Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets are a National Basketball Association team that got their start as part of the American Basketball Association in the 1960's and 1970's. Going by the monikers of Rockets and Nuggets in their nine seasons as part of the ABA, the Denver Nuggets joined the NBA when the ABA folded in 1976. They were immediately a formidable team in their new league, winning their division title in their first two seasons. Led by Dan Issel and David Thompson, the Nuggets were able to advance to the Western Conference Finals in only their second season in the new league. Since joining the NBA in 1976, the Denver Nuggets' 16 winning seasons including 54 games in 1988. They have also welcomed many great players to Denver, including Dikembe Mutombo, Carmelo Anthony, Doug Moe, Allen Iverson, Alex English and Fat Lever. They continue to build every year and work toward winning the Nuggets' first NBA Championship in team history.

The Denver Nuggets last won a division title in 2010, and last made the playoffs in 2013 when they had their best season in franchise history with a record of 57-25. Since then, the team's nucleus disbanded and the Nuggets have hit the reset button. Currently, the Denver Nuggets play in the Northwest Division of the NBA's Western Conference. Their divisional rivals include the Utah Jazz, Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers. They sport powder blue and gold basketball jerseys and play their home games at the Pepsi Center in Denver. The Pepsi Center is still one of the best places to see a game in the NBA, and the Denver Nuggets roster is looking promising. With the young core of talented players, the Denver Nuggets are a team on the rise!

Upcoming Season

The 2017-18 Denver Nugget season was the team’s first winning season since 2013, finishing with a record of 46-36. Despite their winning season, the Nuggets were unable to make it to the playoffs for the fifth straight year. The 2018-19 season is filled with hope as the Nuggets acquired point guard Isaiah Thomas from the Los Angeles Lakers. Thomas is a small but powerful guard who made a name for himself while he was on the Boston Celtics. While on the Celtics, he was a two-time NBA All-Star and helped lead his team to the Eastern Conference Finals. Thomas is sure to bring a new spark to this Denver Nuggets team in the upcoming season. In addition to Thomas, the Nuggets acquired several rookies to add to the roster. Michael Porter Jr. was selected as the #14 from Missouri, Jarred Vanderbilt was selected as the #41 from Kentucky, and Thomas Welch was selected as the #58 from UCLA. Also, Will Barton, Nikola Jokić, Torrey Craig, and Monté Morris all re-signed for the upcoming season. The Nuggets were only one win away from making the postseason last year – will this be the year for them to return to the playoffs?

The 2018 Denver Nuggets season is set to begin on October 17th at the Staples Center against the Los Angeles Clippers. Their first home game of the season will be on October 20th against the Phoenix Suns. On November 5th, the Nuggets will go head to head with the Boston Celtics at home.
