About  New England Patriots

History of the New England Patriots

Founded in 1960, the Patriots are a charter member of the American Football League when they were known as the Boston Patriots. By 1971, they changed their name to represent the entire Northeast region and have been known as the New England Patriots ever since. While the team had two appearances in the Super Bowl through 2000, it wasn't until 2001 that the Patriots changed their reputation around the NFL and became one of the most storied teams in league history. Over the next four years, the Patriots captured three Super Bowl championships, becoming the last "dynasty" in the National Football League. The team has continued its winning ways ever since, and each year they have been anchored by two individuals, head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady. Belichick is the all-time winningest coach in team history and has been widely regarded as the best coach in the NFL. Like many other great coaches before him, though, Belichick has had the benefit of coaching great players and the best of those is without question quarterback Tom Brady.

2017 New England Patriots Season

The 2017 New England Patriots season was their 58th season and the 18th under legendary head coach Bill Belichick. The Pats entered the season as reigning Super Bowl champs and did not disappoint. They finished the regular season with a 13-3 record, putting them in first place in the AFC division. In the divisional playoffs the Pats faced the Tennessee Titans and easily handled them, winning 35-14. In the AFC championship game, New England took on the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Pats were able to advance to the Super Bowl, beating the Jags in a close game 24-20. In Super Bowl LII, New England could not hold on, and unfortunately lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 41-33. This gave the Eagles their first Super Bowl title in franchise history. This year the Patriots will be back with a vengeance to storm through the playoffs and earn their sixth Super Bowl title. During the 2018 NFL Draft the Pats were able to acquire two first round picks. These picks included offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn from the University of Georgia and running back Sony Michel also from the University of Georgia. Veteran quarterback Tom Brady will be returning yet again, poised and ready to bring his team another championship. The Patriots play their home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
