About the Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles franchise was established in 1931 by Bert Bell and Lud Wray. The team has enjoyed many successes, most recently winning their first Super Bowl title in Super Bowl LII. The Eagles have had a vast number of Hall of Famers play for them including Chuck Bednarik, Bob Brown, Reggie White, Steve Van Buren, Tommy McDonald, Earle "Greasy" Neale, Pete Pihos, Sonny Jurgensen, and Norm Van Brocklin. Their two biggest rivals are the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. The rivalry with the Giants began in 1933 when the Giants beat the Eagles in their first game 56-0. The Giants currently lead the all-time series but some notable games include the Miracle at the Meadowlands in 1978, the Eagles playoff defeat of the Giants in the 2008 playoffs, and the second Miracle at the Meadowlands in 2010. The rivalry against the Cowboys started in 1960. While the Cowboys currently lead this series as well, and there is a strong level of hostility between the two teams' fan bases, including incidents such as the 1989 Bounty Bowls and the cheering of Dallas Cowboy wide receiver Michael Irvin when he suffered a career-ending injury in 1999.

2017 Philadelphia Eagles Season

2017 Philadelphia Eagles season was the Eagles’ 85th season in the NFL and 15th season at Lincoln Financial Field. They experienced a spectacular season, finishing 13-3 and winning their division title for the first time since 2013. Eagles fans were heartbroken when quarterback Carson Wentz tore his ACL in Week 14 in a game against the Los Angeles Rams. It seemed as though the Eagles would not be able to continue to play at an exceptional level without Wentz but the Eagles persevered. They beat the New York Giants in Week 15 to clinch a first-round bye and a Christmas Day win in Week 16 against the Oakland Raiders allowed the Eagles to clinch a home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Even without Wentz, the Eagles finished their regular season on a high note and entered the playoffs with confidence. In the NFC Divisional Playoffs round, the Eagles squared up with the Atlanta Falcons. Relying heavily on their defense, the Eagles came out on top beating the Falcons 15-10. In the NFC Championship game, the Eagles faced the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings experienced a blowout, losing to the Eagles 38-7. And then the Eagles went on to face the infamous New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. It was the Eagles’ first Super Bowl in thirteen years, with their last appearance also against the Pats. Philadelphia played a fantastic game and came out on top against the 5-time Super Bowl champions with a final score of 41-33. Quarterback Nick Foles won Super Bowl Most Valuable Player. Foles caught a touchdown pass from tight end Trey Burton, becoming the first player to throw and catch a touchdown pass in a Super Bowl game. The Eagles brought their first Super Bowl title home to Philadelphia and fans could not be more proud.
