Pittsburgh Penguins Tickets 2019 Season Outlook

A team with the likes of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin should always be in playoff contention, if not set to make a deep run to the Stanley Cup Finals.  Winning the Stanley Cup in back to back years brought a level of exhaustion and staleness to the team last year, that begged for a revamp.  The Penguins parted ways with top point producer Phil Kessel, trading him to Phoenix for Alex Galchenyuk.  While this will certainly leave a gap in the Pens' offense, the thought is to pair Galchenyuk with Malkin on the second line, to hopefully get Malkin out of his recent production slump.  The big question for the Penguins will be what to do with a struggling blue line.  Although Kris Letang is a top defenseman, he has been particularly prone to injury, missing 16 games last year.  Additionally, the verdict is still out on the third defensive pairing of Erik Gudbranson and Jack Johnson, two players who have over extended their welcome at other teams.

Pittsburgh Penguins History

Hockey is no joke in the city of Pittsburgh. The Pens have now won five Stanley Cup Championships – each time with some of the best players in NHL history. In the early 90s, no one wanted to meet the Pittsburgh Penguins on the ice. With the duo of Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr, the Pens were a force in the NHL. The Penguins won the Stanley Cup in 1991 and 1992. They were hungry for more but were unable to attain the cup again in the 90s even with all of that talent.

Another duo worthy of the Hall of Fame would lead the Penguins back to the winner's circle. Evgeni Malkin was drafted in 2004 and Sidney Crosby was drafted a year later. Malkin physically imposes his will every night and is a very skilled player. Crosby on the other hand, is an all-around talent that can affect the game in countless ways. Crosby and Malkin led the Pens to a Stanley Cup Championship in 2009 and expectations were at an all-time high for the franchise. After a few disappointing playoff performances, doubt was starting to creep in. The players were questioned, and it was thought the Penguins had missed their window to win another championship. That doubt fueled the Penguins and they breezed past the competition in the 2016 NHL playoffs. The Penguins defeated the San Jose Sharks in six games in the Stanley Cup Finals to secure the fourth championship trophy for the franchise. Their success did not stop there. The next season the Penguins beat the Nashville Predators in six games to win their fifth Stanley Cup. Crosby was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

The Pittsburgh Penguins were able to return to the playoffs in the 2017-18 season. They finished the regular season with a record of 47-29-6 which allowed them to qualify for the playoffs. In the first round of the 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs the Penguins went up against the Philadelphia Flyers. The two Pennsylvania hockey teams fought it out, but it was the Penguins who ultimately won the series in six games. Advancing to the second round, the Penguins faced the Washington Capitals. Unfortunately, the Caps came out on top, defeating the Penguins in six games. No matter what game you want to attend, we are committed to making your buying experience on our site a positive one.
