The Diamondbacks are right back in contention this season, as they attempt to rise to the top. They sent star Paul Goldschmidt to St. Louis this year. They did add infielder Wilmer Flores, outfielder Adam Jones, and pitchers Greg Holland and Luke Weaver. So far this year the Diamondbacks are more than holding their own. Christian Walker, Adam Jones, David Peralta, and Ketel Marte are hitting well. Matt Andriese and Zack Greinke lead the starters thus far. Greg Holland has been strong from the pen. It remains to be seen if they can take that final step to top the favorite LA Dodgers and win this division.
Along with the Tampa Bay Rays, the Arizona Diamondbacks are one of the youngest franchises in Major League Baseball, only joining the league in 1998 as an expansion team. From their inception through the present, the D'backs have played at Chase Field, which is formerly known as Bank One Ballpark. The stadium is often referred to as "The BOB," thanks to the initials of its former name, and is unique from other ballparks across baseball because of its pool just over its centerfield wall.
In the franchise's brief existence, Diamondback fans have had the privilege of watching plenty of winning teams. The team has won five National League West titles to date, most recently in 2011. Of those successes, the most memorable for the people of Arizona came in 2001. Behind ace pitchers Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling, the Diamondbacks captured not only the division title, but were also able to win the National League Championship and eventually went on to defeat the vaunted New York Yankees in seven games to win the franchises one and only World Series title.
Now the team is rebuilding the roster, looking to once again put together a World Series caliber team. On the roster is David Peralta, Ketel Marte, and Nick Ahmed. The 2020 season is the franchise’s 22nd season in the MLB. Will the Diamondbacks be able to win their second World Series title? There is only one way to find out!
