When the NFL was formed in 1920, the Arizona Cardinals (then known as the Chicago Cardinals) became a charter member of the start-up football league. They, along with the Dectur Staleys (now the Chicago Bears), are the only charter members that are still in existence. In the history of the Arizona Cardinals franchise, they have won two NFL Championships, both of which occurred when they were known as the Chicago Cardinals. The first came in 1925 when they beat the Pottsville Maroons, and the second came in 1947 when they beat the Philadelphia Eagles. It took awhile for the Cardinals to find their way to Arizona, but after stops in Chicago and St. Louis, the franchise finally landed in Arizona when they took root in Phoenix in 1988. It took until 1994 for the team to officially name themselves the Arizona Cardinals.
