Dashboard Confessional is a Florida-based band that has been around since the late 1990s. Their music can be described as emo with a twist of alternative and indie rock and their performances continue to gather crowds of fans for a show of a lifetime. In 1999, Dashboard Confessional made its unofficial debut with its LP entitled The Swiss Army Romance. The band was meant to be a side project for its front man, Chris Carrabba, who was in another band at the time. These solo projects ended up becoming more frequent and Carrabba had three other musicians join the band.
In 2001, Dashboard Confessional came out with the second album entitled The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most. The success of the album really set in stone the band’s career and its viability. Dashboard Confessional made its first appearance on a national platform by performing on MTV Unplugged. The band also won the MTV2 award at the MTV Video Music Awards for their music video of their single “Screaming Infidelities” off their second album.
Dashboard Confessional’s discography showcases their journey as a band finding their sound. While their earlier albums set their tone as an emo rock band, Dashboard Confessional continued to explore other genres as they continued to make music. In 2007, their album entitled The Shade of Poison Trees explored acoustic harmonies – straying away from emo into indie and acoustic rock.
Their success also allowed them to perform and tour with several well-known rock artists and bands. Dashboard Confessional toured alongside New Found Glory in 2009 followed by performing as the opening act for Bon Jovi’s Circle tour in 2010.
Hiatus and Comeback
In 2011, Dashboard Confessional decided to take a four-year hiatus which would allow its members to pick up their own creative projects. Band members were able to take on their own music projects, collaborate with other bands, and work on other pursuits. Although the hiatus was only four years, the band did not come out with music until nearly seven years later. In 2018, the band released their seventh album entitled Crooked Shadows with a promising comeback for the years to come.
Since then, the band has celebrated its longevity through continual performances around the country. After recently celebrating its 20th anniversary, Dashboard Confessional is confident in creating and performing more music.
