During his college years at University of California Santa Barbara, Steve Aoki would run underground concerts in his student housing apartments. In 1996 after completing his studies, Steve Aoki founded his own record label called Dim Mak Records. The label was known for releasing music created by other electro house artists such as MSTRKRFT, The Bloody Beetroots, and Bloc Party amongst many others!
Over the years, Steve Aoki has continuously remixed songs by many well-known artists and bands such as Drake, The Killers, Snoop Dog, and even The Jackson 5. When Aoki released his remix of “Forever” by Drake in November of 2009, the track reached number one on the Hype Machine chart. In January of 2012, Steve Aoki released his first album entitled Wonderland, which was eventually nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronica Album in 2013. The star-studded album featured guest music artists such as LMFAO, Kid Cudi, and Rivers Cuomo.
If not the electronic remixes of contemporary hits, Steve Aoki is also known for his wild performances. When given a stage and a crowd, you’ll find the performer crowd surfing while riding on rafts, throwing cakes into people’s faces, and/or spraying bottles of champagnes onto the crowd. Aoki concerts grew tremendously in popularity as he continued to tour across the country.
Steve Aoki’s fame didn’t stop there as many of his songs were also featured on commercials and films throughout the years. Most fittingly, his song “I’m In The House” was included in the Electric Daisy Carnival 2011 documentary. His song “Boneless” also made it into several commercials with companies such as Budweiser and Scion. In 2014, Aoki found his songs making it into films such as Step Up: All In and 22 Jump Street.
In September of 2014, Steve Aoki released the first part of the two-part album entitled Neon Future I. The first album soon reached number one on the Dance/Electronic Albums chart in the country. Right after, the second part entitled Neon Future II peaked at number 32 on the Billboard 200 chart. Since then, Steve Aoki continues to release singles with major artists in the music scene such as AJR, Lil Yachty, Nicki Minaj, and Blink-182.
