Shania Twain Tickets

Shania Twain, born Eilleen Regina Edwards, is a Canadian singer and songwriter. She has sold over 100 million records, making her the best-selling female in country music history and among the best-selling music artists of all time.

Early Life

Shania Twain is the daughter of Sharon nee Morrison and Clarence Edwards, and was born on August 28, 1965. She has two sisters, Jill and Carrie Ann. Twain said she had a difficult childhood: her parents earned little money, and food was often scarce in the household. At the age of eight, Twain began singing in bars to help her family make ends meet, and describes that it was her own kind of performing arts school. At the age of 13, Shania Twain appeared on CBS’s Tommy Hunter Show while attending Timmins High and Vocational School, and also served as lead singer for a band called Longshot, which covered Top 40 music.

Career Beginnings

While performing in a cover band called Flirt, Shania Twain was noticed by Stan Campbell, who wrote about her in a Country Music News article. She had the opportunity to record a demo tape and was introduced to regional country singer Mary Bailey. One of her first major breakthroughs came when Twain performed a fundraiser for the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation, now Indspire, at the Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto alongside Broadway star Bernadette Peters, jazz guitarist Don Ross, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

Shania Twain Discography

Shania Twain (1993) - Three songs on the album were originally recorded by artists: “There Goes the Neighborhood” was recorded by Joe Diffie, “When He Leaves You” was by Donna Meade, and “You Lay a Whole Lot of Love on Me” was recorded by Con Hunley. When the album was first released, there was little interest. After Shania Twain gained popularity following the release of her subsequent albums, the interest in Shania Twain soared, which led to its platinum certification in the United States.

The Woman in Me (1995) - Unlike her previous album, Shania Twain wrote a majority of the songs on the track list. Unlike her previous album, The Woman in Me went on to become her most successful selling album, which went certified platinum 12 times by the RIAA. At its peak, the album reached the number six spot on Canada’s Top Albums (RPM), number 5 on the Billboard Top 200, and number one positions on Billboard’s Top Catalog Albums and Billboard’s Top Country Albums.

Come on Over (1997) - The album, which combines country, pop, and rock, became the best-selling country music album, the best-selling studio album by a female act, and bestselling album by a Canadian. It is the ninth best-selling album in the United States, and the sixteenth best-selling album in the United Kingdom, while staying in the top ten of the Billboard Top Country Albums for 151 weeks. At its peak, the album reached the number two spot on the Billboard Top 200, and number one in over ten countries such as Austria, New Zealand, and Belgium.

Up! (2002) - This album features a mix of country, pop, rock, and international sounding music. A large portion of the album was recorded in Berlin, Rome, Vienna, Paris, Milan, Dublin, and Mumbai. The album received mostly positive reviews, and critics often cited Twain’s well-crafted songs and universal anthems. At its peak, the album reached the number one spot on the Billboard Top 200 and Billboard’s Top Country Albums. Additionally, Up! Was certified platinum 11 times by the RIAA.

Now (2017) - Her latest album was released on September 29,2017 by Mercury Records, and combines country, pop, and rock genres. Now is Shania Twain’s first studio album in which she has assumed an integral role in its production and writing after taking an a almost decade long hiatus. Reviews, however, were mixed for the most part, but still praised the album for dramatic and diverse tracks. At its peak, the album reached the number one position on the Billboard Top 200, Billboard’s Best Coumtry Albums, and Billboard’s Top Canadian Albums. Additionally, Now went certified platinum by Music Canada.

Personal Highlights

Shania Twain met producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange after he heard her original songs and singing from her debut album. They were married on December 29, 1993, and had a song, Eja, in August 2001. However, their marriage ended in 2008 after Twain discovered that Lange had an affair with her best friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud. In December 2010, Twain revealed that she was engaged to Swiss Nestle executive Fredic Thiebaud, the ex-husband of Marie Anne. They were married on July 1, 2011 in Puerto Rico. Outside of her singing career, Shania Twain has appeared multiple times as a guest judge on American Idol, and even had her own reality TV show: Why Not? With Shania Twain, which debuted on May 8, 2011.
